Visions: Truly Madly Deeply

This song grew on me very, very slowly...like eleven years (since it was originally done by Savage Garden in 1997.) I actually used to hate this song, thanks in no small part because the radio stations played it waaaaaayyy too much. The high key and mystical lyrics made it sound queer. It wasn't until after I started working on Featherwing Love and had a character (Juubi) who could actually come pretty close to fulfilling these lyrics that I began to appreciate it. Still, "I love you more with every breath / truly, madly, deeply, do." makes me choke...as a line it just doesn't sound good. It also sounds more like the aforementioned "monster love". Real love includes not only loving the other person, but receiving their love in return. Have you ever had someone reject your love? Sucks, dunnit?

Lyrics:

I'll be your dream
I'll be your wish
I'll be your fantasy
I'll be your hope
I'll be your love
Be everything that you need.
I love you more with every breath
Truly, madly, deeply, do..

I will be strong
I will be faithful
Because I am counting on a new beginning
A reason for living
A deeper meaning yeah

I wanna stand with you on a mountain
I wanna bathe with you in the sea
I wanna lay like this forever
Until the sky falls down on me

And when the stars are shining brightly in the velvet sky
I'll make a wish send it to heaven
That'll make you wanna cry
The tears of joy for all the pleasure and the certainty
That we're surrounded by the comfort and protection
Of the highest power in lonely hour
The tears divide you

I wanna stand with you on a mountain
I wanna bathe with you in the sea
I wanna lay like this forever
Until the sky falls down on me

Oh, can't you see it baby?
Don't have to close your eyes
'cause it's standing right before you
All that you need will surely come

I'll be your dream
I'll be your wish
I'll be your fantasy
I'll be your hope
I'll be your love
Be everything that you need
I love you more with every breath
Truly, madly, deeply, do..

I wanna stand with you on a mountain
I wanna bathe with you in the sea
I wanna lay like this forever
Until the sky falls down on me

I wanna stand with you on a mountain
I wanna bathe with you in the sea
I want to lay like this forever
Until the sky falls down on me

(I wanna stand with you on a mountain
I wanna bathe with you in the sea
I want to lay like this forever
Until the sky falls down on me)

I wanna stand with you on a mountain

Well...the oft repeated chorus speaks quite strongly for a featherwing being. Mountains are a common haunt of birds. They are also a good location for soaring on ridge lift. Most birds don't like to bathe in the sea actually...at least ones that fly. But, there are a lot of famous maritime birds, including the seagull, which is ubiquitous even here in landlocked Calgary, and wave soaring birds like the wandering albatross. A featherwing being can actually replicate a wandering albatross' intercontinental gliding trip, but it would take a lot of training, and probably a lot of caffeine, since they are still half human. As romantic as that may seem, it is unlikely to be seen as such by the beings themselves...they'll really be glad when it's over if they have to make such a trip. An inflatable raft would be preferable to caffeine. As for the sky falling down...well, featherwings would get cranky pretty fast without a sky to fly in. Featherwings are not immortal, so "lay like this forever"...the sky will probably outlast them.
